Obama and The Pope meet to discuss Stem Cells ? Why ?
President Obama and Pope Benedict XVI discussed the many issues at there meeting today but at the core of the meeting was one big issue, Stem Cells. I like Obama but some of the stuff he does is really strange. To me separation of church/religion and state is an important thing. There are allot of citizens in the United States that have different or no beliefs then the catholic church so I do not find it necessary to discuss issues that
concern human rights and medical advancement with the pope. Yes the pope is an important person and I do not argue that point as I was raised catholic but lets respect everyone’s rights and keep politics and religion apart. I cant recall any president every meeting with the leaders of the
atheist movement or the Scientology group. We need to prevent further separation of the people and the only way to do this is to either pay attention to everyone in question or no one.

The Pope is a world leader and has his own country, technically. You can’t ignore the guy.
Ok, You are correct. I am not saying to ignore the pope but at least show some respect to the leaders of religious/atheist groups in the USA. A large portion of the USA is atheist and Agnostic. But obama went over there to discuss laws of the USA concerning Stem Cells… the pope should have no influence over this. What do you think ?
Who do you know in American politics today that calls themselves an Atheist and does well? Many Jews are angry over Obama’s position towards Israel and Catholics are still a very important demographic in the US, especially with Hispanics being wooed by Democrats. It is a joke Obama saying he wants to reduce abortions and other things. He is only playing the Pope for PR.
That is because we still don’t let atheist or agnostics into our political system. Its actually pretty sad to see. We are still a way to discriminative world. If its not one thing its another.
I agree with Harrison. I mean politics go on to every level even religion. Not only the U.S. but also all over the world. I mean look at the Middle East for example. And actually the U.S. is statistically more religious than most countries especially those in Europe. So it is a PR thing and there is a large majority of U.S. citizens who do practice catholism, who he needs the support of even more so in an economic down turn.
Agreed some of the stuff I post here I post to learn more of others opinions.I do agree… I love to hear others opinions.
If you do a little bit of research you will find that the intent of separation of church and state was to keep the state out of the church, NOT the church out of the state. Regardless of which poll you look at, Americans still overwhelmingly identify themselves as Christian… the lowest percentage I found was 76%.
If our Senators and Congressmen/women were truly representing their constituents, we would not even be debating issues like partial birth abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and the public display of religious ideas like the Ten Commandments.
